Lovro 101

You're probably a colleague who knows exactly what I am trying to do here, but just in case you are a stranger who, due to an unfortunate turn of events, clicked a wrong link in the deep dark web, and stumbled upon my blog, here are couple of things you should know about me.

My name is Lovro Mikulić. I am in the final year of my undergraduate studies at Zagreb School of Economics and Management. I am focusing on Marketing, both research and practical work. Therefore I find myself enjoying employment as an Research Assistant, just as I did at my last job as a company's Marketing Department Assistant. I hope, as my dream job, to find myself between those two simultaneously. I am maintaining this blog for the purpose of exploring and sharing business ideas with my classmates and potential partners in developing a business plan.

I love to dance - do breakdance and acrobatics to be exact. I've done it almost my entire life, and I enjoy it immensely. I am not very great at it, since I never actually had a trainer to teach me, but a group of us taught ourselves, and then started teaching younger generations. That is the point at which I discovered another thing I like - teaching. Overall, I guess we weren't bad since, several times, we were invited to perform on the national basketball tourney halftime.
I am also passionate about movies. Good movies. Not those made to be a background noise while you are cooking, but, for example, those of my favourite director - Quentin Tarantino.

In my free time, you can't find me, because I probably went for a walk in the nearby woods behind my apartment to read and relax.

Allow me to give you a tour of my mindflow.

Entrepreneur Profile

Five Sustainable Development Goals I deem most important:

1. Global Partnerships
2. Gender Equality
3. Marine Life
4. Safe Cities
5. Employment

I chose Global Partnerships as a number one priority, because I believe that a true global partnership (not plural) would cause a domino effect that could solve any problems we, as a humanity, are facing or would face (Including almost every one of the 17 SDGs)
Primarily we are caring about our fellow citizens and wishing them well, helping them. Wishing our city to do well and prosper. Then we care a bit less for the entire nation to do same. Then less for the entire region, continent... The further away people from us are, the less familiar to us they are - the less we care. Once people would primarily feel as human specie, and not a New Yorker/Chinese/European, they would idealistically care more for anyone anywhere. They wouldn't think that that starving little girl from Africa isn't their problem. Then, when they hear that there are people in this world who don't even have access to clean water, they would feel that that is unacceptable and would try to do something about it. I believe global partnership(s), that would be to come, would make us all feel like one, and not a certain nation next to another. I understand these views are highly idealistic and naive, but I tried to ask myself to what, in theory, would be the most important goal.
Next four sustainable development goals I chose are those which, by my opinion, mentioned "global unity" would affect ("fix") the least. Therefore, we would have to focus on them more actively. Gender Equality because of obvious reasons, Marine life because polluting oceans pollutes everything else as well. Safe Cities because I believe that feeling safe is a basic human right, and finally Employment, because all people should have a chance at earning a decent living.

Entrepreneur I chose is Boyan Slat

Concerned young man who is, by every indication, on the right track of accomplishing his goal, which is cleaning over 50% of the world's waste plastic in the ocean in only 10 years. That is just one man's idea, fixing an entire world's problem. He is an inventor of a system that uses given sea currents to concentrate waste plastic into his system of connected booms and platforms, which then recycle the plastic. The system basically functions like a fish net stick, but a fish swims in the net on its own. This project, "The Ocean Cleanup" has its "traps" placed onto 5 world current hotspots. In other words, 5 places where most of the ocean waste plastic accumulates.

Entrepreneur, presented by my colleague, also got me thinking...

My dear colleague Daliborka's presentation of an entrepreneur Shai Reshef got me thinking how I too could be a part of such university which provides a free online education for students in developing countries. So far they are teaching computer science and business administration, which fits my education and credentials to teach at least the basics. I do love teaching, as I already mentioned, so it sounded like a fitting way for me to give back.

Mind Map

This Mind Map revolves around my passions, gifts and purposes.

Business ideas I get from looking at my mind map would be:

From PASSION:
I could start my own breakdance school, or join an existing one as a coach for junior squads.

From GIFTS:
I've seen too many movies in my life. Sometimes I joke how I am getting close to "finishing the internet". That is still, I am now realising, experience of some kind. I check the reviews and critics of most of the movies I see, and I have a good knowledge of what-to audience responds well.
All that combined with my imagination, and I come to the conclusion that I could possibly write a screenplay.

From PURPOSE:
I am a fortunate student for having so many amazing professors go through my life. I believe that I have noticed things that professors do, that us students find helpful, and the other way around. I have already been in many situations in life where I have been transferring skills or knowledge to others through teaching/coaching/tutoring, therefore I believe I could possibly find work as a teacher, or start my own tutoring service.

Business Idea with Jessica Pearson from Suits

Each episode, I am stunned by the strength of this character. So well written and inspiring. As a managing partner in a top law firm, she is so powerful that she doesn't ever even need to show it (at least not on purpose), and still, everybody fears and respects her.

Potential business ideas that come to mind while considering Jessica Pearson:
Law firm - given
1. Private Law School
2. Private Management School
3. Crisis Management Consulting
4. Company Reengineering Consulting
5. Fashion Magazine Business
6. Mediation executive

I wish this was...

Old abandoned house near my apartment, Gornji grad Zagreb. At this state of the building, the lot might as well be considered empty.

1.This would be a perfect location for a little grocery store since there is not a single store in a 3 km radius.
Additionally, there are a lot of estates in the walking distance, and the demand would be high.

2. The lot would be perfect as a parking lot (if the building were to be bulldozed and area cleared), because there are very few "extra" parking places in that area. Majority has their own garage, but whenever someone from the street has guests over, traffic gets messy.

3. At this state, it is a hazard for children, if they were to think of going into the house. The dangers are numerous and obvious. If the lot were to be cleaned, and turned into a playground, not only would children be in less danger, they would finally get a safe place where they could play in the neighborhood.

Forced relationships

So random, yet so many possible combinations, and a lot of them make sense, or connections could be somehow explained. However, I've chosen few to comment

Real Business:

Green Office Business - sure is a concept, but not really a business. Perhaps a business can be run that helps other companies run their offices with a more sustainable supplies or, i.e., cut down on the usage of paper (print less mails, since it is borderline unnecessary anyway)

Edit: There is such a similar company https://www.thegreenoffice.com/ that supplies offices with eco-friendly merchandise.

Solar Charger Business - there are many producers out there already, but the chargers are pricey (in comparison to the standard ones)...

Recycle Machine Business - those exist, so whoever makes them, is in business.

Renewable Battery Business - same, at least when thinking of those chargers for batteries that are possible to recharge.

Imagined Business

Biodegradable Battery Business - there is some research on it, but it is so far away that it basically makes it imaginary. Managing batteries after they are depleted is complicated by the fact that you have to separate it from any other kind of waste, so inventing a battery concept that would be biodegradable would sure be a huge and profitable innovation.
